The piece consists of eight monologues written by female writers around the theme of being a northern girl.

Pieces will include work from professional writers, Asma Elbadawi, Zoe Cooper, Maureen Lennon and Charley Miles, in addition to pieces written by young women from Scarborough, under the mentorship of writer, Hannah Davies. Ranging in ages from 18 - 28, Northern Girls will hear the perspectives of Shannon Barker, Amy-Kay Pell, Ariel Hebditch and Claire Edwards.

Esther Richardson, artistic director of Pilot Theatre said: "Coming to Scarborough to work with these women has been an absolute delight and the partners in the town have been extremely welcoming. It is vital that the voices of these women are heard and that we support them to use their creativity to tell their stories."

Each of the young women are involved with different local theatre companies, with Claire known well at the YMCA in particular, as the writer of the past four Christmas pantomimes, in addition to a socially distanced version due this year.

Claire said: "Writing with Northern Girls has been an exciting challenge as I had to write from scratch, which was a joy, as it allowed me to be really creative. It has been an absolute privilege working alongside such talented women and they have each inspired me to keep writing in my spare time."

James Aconley, creative engagement manager at the YMCA said: "We are delighted to host this important piece of work, which puts Scarborough on the map as part of a larger national project and highlights the voices of the next generation of Northern women.'
