Cayton Bowling Club’s delight over £1,000 donation from housebuilder

A Scarborough bowling club has received £1,000 to help repair well worn pathways around its green.

Cayton Bowling Club was chosen by Persimmon Homes Yorkshire as a beneficiary of its monthly Community Champions scheme.

The match-funding initiative supports grassroots groups and charities in areas where the company is building by giving away £1,000 to two causes each month.

Robin Newman, from the Cayton Bowling Club, said: “We have more than 50 members, who are predominately over the age of 70, so the club is well used. Our pathways are in desperate need of repair and normally our membership fees, team tournaments and gala events would have generated the income to cover the repair costs.

“We are hugely grateful to Persimmon Homes for their donation as it will help us to upgrade our paths making them safer.”
