The deal to buy the remaining fashion brands does not include any of their 214 UK stores and puts around 2,500 jobs at risk.

This news is another devastating blow for the Brunswick Shopping Centre after the recent news that Debenhams, also bought by Boohoo, will be closing, along with Topshop and Topman, who have been bought by online retailer Asos.

Sue Anderson Brown, centre manager for the Brunswick Shopping Centre, has expressed her disappointment at the closures, she said: “This national news reflects the wider challenges facing retailers across the country and we will continue to support our stores during this period.”

Talks are already underway between the Scarborough Council, the Scarborough Town Centre Team and owners of the Brunswick Shopping Centre to develop a new vision for the centre and consider potential new opportunities.
