Seamer Carr and Whitby's Household Waste Recycling Centres to reopen on Wednesday

North Yorkshire County Council chief executive Richard Flinton has said 10 of the county’s 21 tips will be brought back into use.

The sites at Seamer Carr in Scarborough and Whitby’s at Chomley Way are to open again but the Burniston Road tip in Scarborough is to remain closed at this time.

On a webcast with North Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Julia Mulligan today, Mr Flinton said the council was now planning to open 10.

He said he centres had been closed as it had been deemed it was “not an essential trip”.

He added that the reopening would be on a “phased basis”.

Mr Flinton said: “We are only opening sites where we can cope with the anticipated demand and the impact on the highways.”

He said the 10 sites chosen were the larger of the centres where distancing could be maintained.
