'Our hearts go out to them': Scarborough staff of Arcadia shops facing uncertain future

Scarborough shop workers are facing an uncertain time as the future of retail giant Arcadia hangs in the balance.

The empire, owned by Sir Philip Green and which includes Topshop, Burton and Dorothy Perkins, is reportedly on the brink of collapse.

The company could enter administration as soon as today, putting 13,000 jobs at risk.

The boss of Scarborough's Brunswick Shopping Centre, Sue Anderson Brown, said the centre's thoughts are for Arcadia's employees.

There is a Dorothy Perkins and Topshop/Topman in the centre.

"Everyone is mindful that Arcadia is in difficulty and we are watching developments very carefully," said Mrs Anderson Brown.

"Our support goes out to the staff. There are a lot of loyal employees and our hearts go out to the staff at this crucial time.

"It's a tragedy."

She added Arcadia's difficulties are indicative of the continued decline and changing face of retail on the high street.
