Ryedale District Council is getting the latest round of business grants out the door as quickly as possible to help concerns in the area.

So far, over £1.3 million has been allocated to 853 local businesses in Ryedale that had to close their doors during the second national lockdown, or had not been eligible for other grant support.

Payments for the new mandatory Local Restrictions Support Grant (LRSG) commenced from November 18 and the discretionary Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) payments started on December 1.

The discretionary scheme is there to support businesses that have been severely affected by the second national lockdown, if they’re not eligible to claim a grant under other available schemes.

Grants under the discretionary scheme can be claimed for the period November 5 2020 to December 2, 2020 and at any future time Ryedale is placed into Local Covid Alert Level 3 or another national lockdown.

The original Business Support Grant Scheme ran from April to September which resulted in £23.9m being paid out to more than 2000 businesses.

Councillor Keane Duncan, Leader of Ryedale District Council said: “This year has dealt one blow after another for Ryedale businesses and it’s been our priority throughout Covid-19 to support lives and livelihoods. Many businesses are struggling and we must do all we can to help them.
