Schneider Electric has announced the expansion and upgrade of its manufacturing facility in Scarborough.

The move has been driven by increased domestic and international demand.

The upgrade will fundamentally change the site’s capabilities, boosting capacity and productivity, while enabling new technologies to be developed.

Scarborough is able to design, engineer and build world-class smart and connected low voltage solutions.

The facility specialises in manufacturing switchgear for low-voltage environments, used to protect and distribute electricity in public, commercial and industrial installations.

Examples include the Compact Principal Supply Point developed in conjunction with Network Rail.

Mike Hughes, Zone President, Schneider Electric UK and Ireland, said: “Improving the capabilities at Scarborough will support the global shift toward sustainable technology. In the UK, we need high quality, energy efficient products on our doorstep. The site is now be able to cater to demand and develop best-in-class technology to meet our ambitious national emissions targets.”
