The Food Warehouse, Whitby, opens doors to customers for first time
Whitby's The Food Warehouse opened its doors yesterday - with the first day hailed as a great success.
The Food Warehouse has invested more than £750,000 in bringing a brand new store to the Whitby Retail Park.
Staff at the new store on Fairfield Way showed their thanks for local heroes by donating to support the Whitby Community Hospital and Whitby Court Care Home, with vouchers to provide supplies and meals to staff and patients.
The 9,831 sq ft supermarket opened its doors yesterday, creating 30 new jobs.
The supermarket is also offering NHS workers an exclusive 10% discount until May 2, as a thank you for their "incredible work" over the past 12 months with the hope that it will enable workers to save on their shopping.
To claim the discount NHS workers need to present their NHS ID at the checkout and the 10% will be deducted from their shopping bill then and there.
The discount will be available across all Iceland and the Food Warehouse food and drink in store so workers can stock up on family favourites or fill their freezers with a few treats to see them through their shifts.
Speaking about the new Whitby store, Kristian Barrett, Operations Director for The Food Warehouse, said: “We’re delighted to have opened our new store in Whitby.
"The Food Warehouse is an innovative store format, responding to the changing needs of shoppers by offering amazing bulk-buy deals and homeware offers alongside a fantastic range of frozen, fresh and chilled foods.”
The Whitby store manager, Scott Walker, said: “Our opening day has been a great success and the whole team has really enjoyed meeting people from our local community.
"I am also really proud of the whole team for donating to the local carers and hospital staff after all their dedication.”
The Whitby store opening hours are Monday to Saturday 8am to 9pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm.
