Christmas Tree Festival sparkles at St Johns Church

The Bridlington Christmas Tree Festival is now under way at St Johns Burlington Methodist Church.

Each year, the church is lit up by thousands of fairy lights – and this time around it is illuminated by lights on 50 trees – while special displays and a seasonal treasure hunt is providing extra entertainment for families.

This hugely popular event brings together local businesses, organisations and schools to put on a spectacular display of beautifully decorated trees.

It’s a magical start to the Christmas celebrations at the church, which is based next to the Aldi store on St John Street, and the event helps raise vital funds for charity in the process.

The festival runs until Sunday, December 14 and the opening times are Friday 10am-6pm, Saturday 10am-6pm, Sunday 1-5pm, Monday 10am-1pm, Wednesday 10am-1pm. Entry is adults £3 (under 16s free).

A spokesperson said: “There’s around 50 trees on display along with a host of traditional activities for young and old – from a prize-packed tombola to activities for kids.

“There’s also a seasonal treasure hunt around the building that everyone can enjoy, and there’s a whole programme of musical entertainment.

“There will also be special displays to delight visitors. There will be a fall of hundreds of peace doves in the church as a centre piece, and in another area there’s a special winter walk through featuring The Greatest Snowman and mood lighting.

“This year the festival is supporting Bridlington, York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity, enabling them to fund the extras to improve healthcare facilities above and beyond the NHS.”
