A wide range of local mental health and wellbeing services are joining forces this month as Scarborough Library hosts a special mental health information pop‑up event on Saturday, January 24, from 11am to 3pm.

Organised by North Yorkshire Talking Therapies, a part of Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust, the event aims to make it easier for people to learn about mental health, discover what support is available locally and find out how to access it.

Visitors will be able to browse stalls, speak directly with professionals and pick up helpful resources from a variety of local organisations including Scarborough Survivors, Mind, Andy’s Man Club, Carers Plus and more.

Sarah Beattie, a senior psychological wellbeing practitioner at North Yorkshire Talking Therapies, said: “The event is designed to break down barriers to support - especially for people living in more isolated parts of the county.

“North Yorkshire is a beautiful place, but many of our communities are quite remote. Bringing vital services together in one location makes a real difference. It helps people see what support exists and how to get it. Making that information visible and accessible is essential for our rural residents.

“Holding the event in January really matters. This time of year can be difficult for many people. The darker days, the cold weather and the post‑Christmas lull can take a toll on our wellbeing. It’s also a point when lots of people set wellbeing‑focused New Year’s resolutions but aren’t always sure where to begin.

“By bringing services together now, we can offer support to those feeling the ‘January blues’ and help anyone who wants to take that first step towards improving their mental health.

“We hope to see as many people as possible so please pop down to come say hello, we would love to see you there.”

Leanne Berry, talking therapies team manager, said: “The pop‑up will signpost people struggling with their mental health to connect with the right services on the day. It’s also an opportunity for local organisations to strengthen their networks and work more closely together.”

“We want people to feel confident reaching out for help,” Leanne added. “Whether someone wants to learn more about mental health, explore support options for themselves or someone they care about, or simply understand how to access services, this event is a welcoming place to start.”
