Pickering farm shop café to host charity quiz nights

On Friday, January 30 and February 20, local quizmaster and Cedarbarn team member Michael Kipling will host fundraising quiz nights with a pie and pea supper at the Thornton Road venue in Pickering.

“Last year’s charity quiz nights were so successful that we’re repeating them in 2026,” said Cedarbarn’s assistant general manager, Lauren Turnbull, who has organised the events.

“Proceeds from the January quiz will go to Lucy’s Legacy to help raise funds to support people struggling with maternal mental health issues. In just over a year, Lucy's mum, sister and close friends have raised an amazing £40,000 to help provide better peri and postnatal care to those who need it the most. After a busy year of hosting their own fundraising events, it's time for them to enjoy the proceeds, without the hard work of organising an event.”

“Proceeds from the February quiz will go to local lady, Jody Marton’s, fundraising for the research and support charity, Breast Cancer Now, following her own diagnosis in December 2024.

“After completing her chemotherapy in June, Jody decided it was time to start fundraising and raising awareness. She has since raised over £13,000 from a tractor run - led by Jody in her pink tractor- wreath-making classes, cake and book stalls and a charity ball at Scarborough Rugby club.”

Teams of up to four people will compete in a fun quiz, and there will be prizes for the top two teams. Tickets for the quiz cost £20 and include a Cedarbarn Steak Pie and Pea supper, with proceeds going to the charities. There will be a raffle and a licensed bar. In the last two years, the Cedarbarn team have raised over £43,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, Prostate Cancer UK and local charities.
