The event, organised by Backfire in conjunction with East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Visit East Yorkshire team, saw an array of vintage European and Americana Hot-Rod vehicles and motorcycles racing in pairs along a 200-yard course on Bridlington’s south beach.
The weekend, started with the vintage cars being on show in the Old Town on Thursday (September 17), before the action transferred to the beach on Saturday and Sunday.
Race the Waves is a tribute to times long past; where the Yorkshire beaches were the earliest proving grounds for land speed record attempts within the UK.
Vehicles performed ‘spirited drag-races’ in pairs over the course marked in the fresh tidal sand.
The many attractions throughout the event featured a static auto-show, organised by Bridlington Lions, on South Marine Drive.
A variety of vintage and classic vehicles were also on display at the auto-show, along with a selection of refreshment and community-run stalls along Princess Mary Promenade.
Other events included ‘The Ken Fox Troupe and their amazing vintage Wall of Death’ show, between Bridlington Spa and the RNLI, and Tank Rides on Bridlington South Beach during Saturday and Sunday.
