Red Kite's special workshops for local care home residents
A local company has devised a range of interactive, and immersive seasonal workshops in the creative arts, designed to bring joy into the lives of care home residents – including those with dementia.
Based in Bridlington, Red Kite’s therapeutic arts workshops help people use their imaginations, improve memory and cognitive function, reminisce, and build relationships.

The sessions are dementia friendly, and focus on, or blend together drama, dance, movement, music, and art, often taking inspiration or materials from the natural world to help participants connect with themselves, and find emotional release, through creative expression.
The workshops are being enjoyed by care homes across East Yorkshire, many of whom have built wonderful working relationships with the group, allowing residents the opportunity to regularly connect with the arts.

The group also helps care homes forge links with local schools and community organisations, breaking down barriers between age groups, and helping seniors share wisdom with young people.
Rowan Martin, founder of Red Kite, said: “Our special Spring sessions are a lively, engaging addition to our usual range of arts workshops, bringing the outside in for care home residents, to help them feel part of the wider world.
“Whether they take part in a clowning and circus skills workshop to celebrate Comic Relief in March, explore and collaborate on a group creative writing projects for National Poetry Week, or experience the sensory delight of soil beneath their fingers while potting Spring Bulbs in a planter they’ve decorated for Easter, the emphasis is on exploration, playfulness, and fun.
“Age should never be a barrier to accessing the arts. Young, or old, we all need outlets for self-expression.”
