This Valentine’s Day, Find Your Paw-fect Match with Channel 4’s The Dog House

Love might have competition - and it has four legs and a wagging tail.
Coming home after an exhausting day to a dog bursting with joy can feel just as emotionally fulfilling as being greeted by a partner, according to recent research. A 2025 survey from The Kennel Club found nearly half of dog owners would choose their dog over a Valentine’s date, with many saying they feel more comfort and compatible with their canine than with people.
A separate 2025 study led by the University of Kent found dogs can raise life satisfaction as much as marriage – by 3 to 4 points on a scale of 1 to 7.
The makers of Channel 4’s BAFTA-nominated The Dog House are looking for people from across the region who may be considering adopting a rescue dog.

Since launching in 2019, The Dog House has captured the hearts of millions by following the emotional journeys of rescue dogs as they are matched with people looking to offer them a second chance. Filmed at Woodgreen Pets Charity, the series shines a light on how life-changing the bond between humans and dogs can be - for both sides.
Across the UK, rescue centres are under enormous pressure. Last year alone, more than 47,000 people contacted Dogs Trust about giving up their dogs, and the RSPCA reports that the number of dogs in their care has doubled since 2020. Unfortunately, local shelters are experiencing the same strain.
But despite the challenges, there is no shortage of dog lovers and 86% of dog owners report being physically healthier and having improved mental wellbeing. The series aims to celebrate these positive changes while helping dogs in need find loving homes.
The Dog House team is now seeking people who may be thinking about adopting a rescue dog - whether for companionship, support, wellbeing, or simply the joy of bringing a four-legged friend into their life.
