Two RNLI team members pass key training assessments

Two members of Bridlington’s volunteer lifeboat crew are celebrating after passing Tier 1 and Tier 2 assessments.

Alexs Lurans passed his Tier 1 plan for the all‑weather Shannon-class lifeboat, while Mikey Ellison completed his Tier 2 plan.

Tier 1 training is the first step in a volunteer crew member's lifeboat journey and represents a major achievement after months of training.

The Tier 2 theory and practical training sees crew members focus on leadership and seamanship skills.

It tests a person’s leadership and navigation competency, along with emergency procedures and managing crew safety.

Every crew member follows a structured programme of competence-based training and assessment. It is a continuous process and the learning never stops.

A spokesperson for Bridlington RNLI said: “Massive congratulations to both Mikey Ellison (Tier 2) and Alexs Lurans (Tier 1).

“They each passed out on their Tier 1 and Tier 2 plans for the all‑weather Shannon-class lifeboat. An incredible milestone – well deserved, both of you!”

All RNLI crew members follow a development plan in which they learn:

•the roles and responsibilities at the lifeboat station

•how to use and look after their personal protective equipment

•the layout of their station’s lifeboat and how to use the equipment onboard

•how to work with ropes safely.
