The NY Voice team at North Yorkshire Council is calling on young people aged 11 to 19 to step forward and apply for the prestigious roles of Member of Youth Parliament (MYP) and Deputy MYP.
These roles are specifically for the East of North Yorkshire constituency, covering the borough of Scarborough and the district of Ryedale.
What is the Youth Parliament?
The UK Youth Parliament provides opportunities for 11-18 year olds to use their elected voice to bring about social change through meaningful representation and campaigning. It is a unique platform where young people can share their views with decision-makers at the highest levels.
An amazing opportunity
Becoming an MYP is not just about attending meetings; it is a life-changing experience that opens doors to incredible opportunities. Successful candidates will have the chance to:
- Visit the House of Commons: Sit on the famous green benches in London and debate the most pressing issues facing youth today.
- Campaign Locally and Nationally: Lead projects on issues such as mental health, the environment, transport, and education.
- Network: Participate in regional and national residentials, meeting like-minded young people from across the UK.
Beyond the excitement of travel and campaigning, the role is a fantastic way to build essential life skills. MYPs develop confidence in public speaking, learn the art of debate, master teamwork, and gain leadership experience that looks impressive on any future CV or university application.
Support every step of the way
Candidates do not need to be experts in politics to apply. The elected MYP and Deputy MYP will be fully supported by North Yorkshire’s dedicated NY Voice team. This team ensures that the representatives are guided, trained, and empowered to make their voices heard effectively.
How to apply
If you are aged between 11 and 19 and live in Scarborough or Ryedale, this is your chance to make your mark.
To apply, you must submit a 350-word manifesto. This should explain who you are, what you stand for, and what you would hope to achieve for the young people of Scarborough Borough and Ryedale.
Please send your manifesto via email to: [email protected]
The deadline for applications is Thursday, December 5.
Don’t miss this chance to turn your passion into action. Stand up, speak out, and become the voice for the young people of your area.
