Primary school's Harvest Festival helps Scarborough homelessness charity
Donated dry goods will help support people in need in Scarborough, thanks to a primary school's efforts.
Wheatcroft Community Primary School’s Harvest Festival collected non-perishable food goods to be donated to the Rainbow Centre.

With seasonal songs from Key Stage 1 and 2 students, the school’s annual festival celebrated the harvest season while hoping to support the homeless in Scarborough.
Headteacher, Jayne Watson, said: “We’re really grateful to all the members of our school community who have donated for such a worthy cause.
“The Rainbow Centre is one that’s close to our hearts because it’s local - it’s important to have a positive impact within our community.”

Harvest Festival is a long-standing autumn tradition in UK primary schools, usually celebrated in late September or October, to acknowledge and be thankful for the annual food crop and to support the local community.
Songs such as Harvest Samba and the well-known classic, Cauliflower’s Fluffy, were sang to parents, families and wider community members in their sports hall, before students helped Ms Watson deliver a Harvest reflection, using the letters in ‘harvest’ to prompt thoughts on sharing, looking after the earth and being kind to others.
