“Being a student at Lady Lumley’s gives students a wealth of opportunities to develop their interests and build an understanding of the 21st century locally, nationally, and internationally.”

Its sixth form helps to boost aspirations, she adds: “Our thriving Sixth Form is a fantastic goal for students to aim for, right from Year 7, taking them to higher level apprenticeships, university and employment.”

The focus is firmly on all-round education, as Sarah Thompson, Key Stage 3 Leader, explains: “As Leader of Key Stage 3 it is my role to ensure students build strong foundations to then go on to achieve the best outcomes in Key Stage 4 and 5.

“Lady Lumley’s provides an excellent learning experience for all students. We are an inclusive school that has the highest expectations of all our students: as a school community we work together to ensure all students fulfil their potential.

“We provide a wealth of opportunities for students to learn outside the classroom, recognising that talent comes in all forms.”

The school has relaunched the house system and is developing further opportunities for student leadership and house competitions in the Arts, Food Technology and PE.

“Through the curriculum and the pastoral structure, we instil the key characteristics of resilience, kindness, integrity, community, respect and equality,” adds Ms Thompson.

“There is a strong sense of community at Lady Lumley’s with staff and students working together throughout their learning journey. Having a sixth form is a real asset; sixth form students are positive role models, supporting student in paired reading, as bus prefects and supporting students in lessons as part of the enrichment programme.

“As a school we all work together to ensure we are all being our best.”

This ethos is strongly supported by Lady Lumley’s dedicated Year 7 Pastoral Officer and Transition Coordinator Hazel Brown who says: “It is not just about the classroom; it is an all-round lesson for life and the future.”

She shared some of the views of current Year 7 students on the best bits of life at Lady Lumley’s:

“The teachers and tutors are really nice”

“Meeting new people and making friends”

“The food is really good”

“My history teacher is amazing”

“Games is fun”

“There are always people around to help you out”

“Lady Lumley’s has fantastic facilities, with extended grounds for games and use of an on-site sports centre,” adds headteacher Ms Foden. “There are specialist classrooms and professionally qualified and experienced teachers for practical and academic subjects.

“Maximising the countryside on our doorstep, we run a very popular Duke of Edinburgh provision with accommodation in Rosedale.

“At Lady Lumley’s we are driven to ‘Be our best’ in all we do and are

ambitious for all our students to make progress. We are proud of our success and are committed to improvement in all areas, so our students, staff and community thrive.

“Please do attend our Year 5/6 Open Evening on Wednesday, October 5, between 6pm and 7.30pm to find out more!”
