Filey Junior School says officers have been in touch following complaints about mums and dads not adhering to guidelines about gathering and road safety rules.

The school is now staggering its pick-up times in the hope of combating the problem.

A message in its newsletter said: “We have recently received a number of complaints which have now resulted in the involvement of the local police who have contacted me to raise their concerns.

“It would appear that a number of parents are gathering at pick-up times in particular, and not observing social distancing or road safety rules.

“This means that we now have to change our arrangements to introduce slightly staggered timings, which we have been eager to avoid in order to make the process of dropping off and picking up easier for everyone.

“Please avoid coming up to the area directly outside of the school gates until the previous class has moved as this will cause further congestion and the risk of close contact. I would also like to remind you that it is in everyone’s interest for all adults to wear a mask at these busy times.”

The school has asked all parents to wear face masks when dropping off and picking up their children.

The newsletter went on to say: “We have also noticed an increasing number of children coming to school very early.

“The school gates do not open until 8.40am but some children are arriving, in cold and wet conditions, as early as 8.20am resulting in them having a long wait at the start of the school day.

“Please let’s work together to make this system work and avoid any further complications.”
