School closures: Tuesday January 6 - Yorkshire coast schools closed due to freezing conditions
Many Yorkshire coast schools will be closed today (Tuesday January 6)
A number of schools have announced they will be closed today following the recent cold weatheer.
In a statement for Whitby Area Schools Partnership, Olly Cooper Executive Head Teacher said: “As a group of schools in the local area, we have made the coordinated decision, due to the severe weather conditions and significant snowfall over the last two days, to close the schools on Tuesday January 6.
“This decision has not been taken lightly. However, ongoing transport disruptions caused by the snow, treacherous conditions on and around the school site, and concerns for the safety of both pupils and staff travelling to and from school mean that it would not be safe to open.
“We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding as the safety of our school community must remain our priority.
“We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates regarding reopening as soon as possible.
“Please check your emails, school social media accounts and the school website for any additional information.”
