SNOW DAY: Wednesday January 7 - Schools closed or opening late in Scarborough
Many schools will be reopening their doors today following the recent bad weather, however, several schools have announced delayed opening times.
A statement on the Barrowcliff School Facebook page read: ”Due to widespread black ice, school is closed to all pupils today.
"Pavements and side roads are extremely hazardous, and conditions remain unsafe for both pedestrians and vehicles.
“Despite checks and preparation on site, travel to and from school cannot be made safe, and the risk of slips, falls and accidents is unacceptably high.
“This decision has been made following a risk assessment that considered:
• Travel safety for pupils, families and staff
• Icy pavements and untreated side roads in the local area
• Staffing and safeguarding requirements
• Emergency access to the site if required
“Safety must always come first. We appreciate that this may cause inconvenience, but we cannot ask families or staff to travel in conditions that present a clear risk of injury.
“Please do not travel to school today, as the site will be closed.
“Further updates will be shared about tomorrow.”
North Yorkshire Council has announced that the following schools are affected by the weather today:
St Augustine's School, Scarborough: delayed opening 10am, students can arrive from normal time if needed
St Peter's School, Scarborough: delayed opening 10am, students can arrive from normal time if needed
St George's School, Scarborough: delayed opening 10am, students can arrive from normal time if needed
Scarborough Pupil Referral Service: closed
Springhead Lady Edith Site: closed
Northstead Primary School: closed
Overdale community Primary School: closed
Wheatcroft CP School: closed
Filey Junior School: closed
Cayton School: closed
Friarage School: closed
Barrowcliff School: closed
Brompton and Sawdon CP School: closed
St.Martin’s C of E VA Primary School: closed
Lindhead School: closed
Woodlands Academy: closed
Snainton Primary School: closed
Newby and Scalby Primary Academy: closed
Childhaven Nursery School: closed
Hackness and Wykeham Church of England Schools: closed
