Covid leaflets posted through letterboxes, as borough's infection rate soars to over double the national average

Coronavirus information leaflets have been posted through Filey letterboxes as cases in the Scarborough borough continue to rise.

Police officers and Scarborough Borough Council staff have been hand-delivering the flyers to people's homes this weekend.

The leaflets say: "Case rates have doubled in the last few days and are rising rapidly throughout the Scarborough borough including Whitby, Scarborough, Filey, Hummanby and northern villages."

It also includes a plea for people to play their part in trying to bring infection rates down by adhering to lockdown rules.

According to the latest Government figures, updated this afternoon, there have so far been 2,313 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the Scarborough borough, with 80 of those cases reported in the last 24 hours.

Scarborough’s seven-day infection rate stands at 579.3 per 100,000 people - more than twice the average figure for England, which is 264.4.
