The council added: “The waiting room, office and other public spaces at Woodlands Crematorium are closed.

Last week, the authority took the decision to close the remembrance chapel and book at the crematorium in order to stop the spread of the virus.

In a statement, the authority said: “As part of our efforts to help keep people safe during the coronavirus outbreak, we are continuing to review the use of facilities at Woodlands Crematorium that are subject to a high level of touch by the public.

“We have therefore taken the difficult decision to close the book of remembrance chapel until further notice.

“We appreciate not being able to access the printed book in person will be a concern to some, but we have seen a drop off in people coming to view the book since the government’s stay at home message began and you can still access the online version of the book at scribesplus.co.uk/scarborough.”
