Scarborough borough infection rate falls as impact of lockdown is felt

Scarborough’s coronavirus infection rate continues to fall as the third national lockdown starts to have an impact.

The borough is averaging 37 new cases every day compared to almost 50 a day this time last week.

The seven day infection rate per 100,000 people in Scarborough now stands at 235. Seven days ago the rate stood at 314.

However, the borough’s rate remains above pre-Christmas levels which on December 12 was just 177 and 212 on Christmas Day.

The average infection rate across North Yorkshire is also trending downwards, falling from 436 cases per 100,000 people seven days ago to 312 today.

Mobile testing sites will be in Whitby, Scarborough and Filey this week for people with coronavirus symptoms to get tested.

Appointments for all sites must be booked in advance.
