Scarborough borough is placed in new Tier 2 restrictions: Here's what it means

The ‘High’ alert level is stricter than the Tier 1 restriction Scarborough had before the current lockdown was brought in.

In the last fortnight, the infection rate in the borough has fallen from more than 600 cases per 100,000 people on a seven-day average to 280 today.

All of North Yorkshire's districts and York have been placed into Tier 2.

Under Tier 2 the following restrictions apply:

Pubs and bars can only open if they serve “substantial meals” and alcohol can only be served with that meal

No socialising with households indoors

The rule of six applies outdoors – including in gardens and public places

Shops, gyms and personal care services – including hairdressing – can reopen

Sports can resume with up to 2,000 spectators, or 50% capacity depending on which is smaller.
