If you missed getting your McDonald’s fix during the first lockdown, you can at least take some comfort in the fact services will continue running the second time around.
From Thursday 5 November, a second national lockdown will see pubs, restaurants, shops and various other businesses across England close once again, as part of efforts to drive Covid infection rates down.
In force for a period of four weeks, the lockdown is due to end on 2 December if measures are successful in bringing rates to a more manageable level.
But, while the next month will be a difficult one, some hospitality businesses can still provide takeaway and delivery services - including McDonald’s.
Drive through, takeaway and delivery only
The fast food chain has confirmed that while its dining areas across England will close at 12:01am on 5 November, its branches will remain open for drive through, takeaway and delivery via Uber Eats and Just Eat.
Following the first lockdown in March, McDonald’s has made a number of changes to its restaurant operations and kitchens to enhance health and safety procedures to keep employees and customers safe.
These include the following measures:
Fewer people working per shiftAdditional screens in kitchen and service areas to adhere to social distancingServing a reduced menu and reducing hours at some sitesHand washing at least every 30 minutes and providing hand sanitiser for staff, delivery partners and customersAsking customers to respect social distancing guidelines, to wear face coverings when entering restaurants, using floor markings in restaurants for takeaway, and signposting routes for customers and delivery partnersCleaning surfaces and equipment, including self-order screens and card readersProviding teams with additional protective equipment, including face coverings, and using contactless thermometers to check their temperature
McDonald’s CEO, Paul Pomroy, said, “The safety of you and our employees is an absolute priority to us.
“I am incredibly proud of how our restaurant teams have continued to adapt to the new ways of working and I am also grateful for your understanding as we have all got to grips with a new normal. Once again, as we all adjust, I would ask you to be patient with our teams.
“We remain committed to enabling our people to come to work safely whilst we continue to serve the communities in which we operate. In some restaurants, our operating hours and services may vary.
“As always, we will keep you updated via the My McDonald’s App and our website. “
