Yorkshire hospitals record highest daily Covid-19 death toll in two months

According to figures released by NHS England, a further six patients have died from the virus in Yorkshire hospitals.
This is the highest recorded daily increase since July 2 according to the statistics.

Hide AdThe statistics reveal four new deaths of patients in the care of Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, one in Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and one in Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
The death toll in the county now stands at 2,947.
Leeds has the highest number of deaths in Yorkshire, with 341 deaths in the city from the virus according to NHS England figures.
NHS England publishes the number of patients who have died in hospital and tested positive for COVID-19 in England.
Since Tuesday, April 28 NHS England and NHS Improvement also reports the number of patient deaths where there has been no COVID-19 positive test result, but where COVID-19 is documented as a direct or underlying cause of death on part 1 or part 2 of the death certification process.

Mr Johnson said a month ago an average of around 1,000 people across the UK were testing positive for Covid-19 every day, adding the latest figure has almost quadrupled to 3,929.

Hide AdAnd he said: “I want to stress that this is by no means a return to the full lockdown of March. We’re not issuing a general instruction to stay at home.
“We will ensure that schools, colleges, universities stay open because nothing is more important than the education, health and well-being of our young people.
“We will ensure businesses can stay open in a Covid-compliant way. However we must take action to suppress the disease.”
But a number of new measures were announced including a 10pm curfew for pubs, bars, and restaurants from Thursday, table service only in hospitality venues, and a change in messaging that people who can work from home now should do so again.

Hide AdCustomers must now wear masks in taxis by law, and staff must also do so in shops.
Both staff and customers in indoor hospitality venues must also wear masks, unless eating or drinking.
And the number of people who can attend a wedding has been slashed to 15.
