Safety measures at Scarborough Sports Village and Pindar Leisure Centre have been given the best possible endorsement – with visits to the sites on the increase following their recent reopening.

Everyone Active, which manages the centres in partnership with Scarborough Borough Council, welcomed back the community on Monday, April 12, allowing residents to return to activity and to boost their physical and mental health.

Outdoor activities at Scarborough Sports Village – the 3G football pitch and multi-use games area – had opened two weeks earlier.

Safety has been Everyone Active’s priority throughout the pandemic and a host of strict operational measures are in place, including rigorous cleaning regimes, timed activity sessions and one-way systems to help with social distancing.

These measures have impressed customers, with attendances in the week after reopening higher than in the week following the first lockdown.

Visits to the centres and their sister site – Whitby Leisure Centre – were up four per cent.

It is hoped attendances will be further improved by the return of group exercise and aqua classes on Monday, May 17. Instructor-led and virtual classes will run at both Scarborough Sports Village and Whitby Leisure Centre.
