East Riding celebrates record low levels of smoking in adults according to YOURhealth

The East Riding is celebrating a record low for adult smoking rates across the county and is second lowest in the Yorkshire and Humber region.

YOURHealth, a Humber Teaching NHS foundation stop smoking service, have published tobacco control profiles which show a downward trend in smoking.

Local smoking cessation teams and community support created by the YOURhealth team has helped to tackle the number of smokers in the East Riding.

Jon Dunn, Service Manager at YOURhealth, said: “Smoking remains the biggest cause of preventable illness and death, so the progress shown in the latest data is especially great news for our teams, as it demonstrates the positive impact their work continues to have on individuals and families across our patch.”

Out of 15 counties in the Yorkshire and Humber region, the East Riding had the second lowest rate of smoking prevalence in adults.

The total was 10.2%, a significant reduction from 2015, when smoking prevalence amongst adults in the region was as high as 15.7%.

A spokesperson for the trust said: “This fantastic result is a testament to the high-quality service provided by the YOURhealth team.”

Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust’s stop smoking teams are there to support smokers to progress to a smoke-free life, to improve local communities health and help with their finances.
