Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust would like you to join them at the online event on Wednesday October 21.

Members of the Whitby and District Patient and Carer Experience forum joined a virtual event to discuss the enhancement of Whitby Hospital and Gardens earlier this month in a session which updated the community on the progress of the build and opened up a discussion about how the public could get involved in the transformation.

Topics that were discussed included the hospital gardens, artworks inside and outside, the name of the ward and areas of the hospital, how enhancements can add to dementia friendly wards.

Groups represented at the event included Whitby Civic Society, Carers Resource, Whitby Community Alliance, Whitby Group Practice, Sleights and Sandsend Medical Practice, Egton Surgery Patient Participation Groups (PPGs), Dementia Friends and Healthwatch North Yorkshire.

Health Stars, Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust’s Charity, also attended the event to explain how they work together with staff, patients, carers, families and the local communities to enhance services.

Health Stars are running an Appeal with the goal to fundraise £200,000 to enhance the Whitby Hospital rebuild which will add an ‘extra sparkle’ to the services and go above and beyond what the core NHS provides.

The Appeal will be supported by Hull and East Yorkshire (HEY) Smile Foundation, whose work spans across the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise Sector (VCSE), as well as connecting opportunities with the private and public sector.

A key function of their work is the Smile Health stream - developing and leading NHS charities to make funds work harder, last longer and go further.

The follow-up event next Wednesday, which runs from 10.30am to noon, is the perfect opportunity for any member of the public to get involved and have their say.

This will be hosted on Microsoft Teams and the link to join is here.
