Our county can celebrate some right royal links, Queen Elizabeth II herself having visited all four corners of Yorkshire.
Here are among top majestic moments across our area...

9. Woodend, The Crescent, Scarborough
Now home to creative industries, coffee shop and art gallery, Woodend was the home of the Sitwells, including poet Edith. Queen Victoria’s son the Prince of Wales, future King Edward VII, was a regular guest at what was then called Londesborough Lodge. The family was forced to ride out a scandal after the Prince developed symptoms of typhoid and became critically ill while staying there. He recovered but Queen Victoria took a “dim view” of Scarborough thereafter.
