Peasholm Park is much-loved by residents and visitors alike with its unusual Japanese-inspired features and tree trail through the Glenn. The park first opened in 1912, the brainchild of the Borough engineer Harry W. Smith, and has gone through many further developments since. Take a walk through the park’s historic beginnings with these 16 photos from the Max Payne Collection.

7. Before the Glen
The area in the foreground was transformed in 1924 to become a landscaped, woodland walk. Peasholm Beck fills the lily pond, and entered a children's paddling and boating pool before finally dropping into the lake. Photo: Max Payne Collection
8. Flowers
Here we see flower beds in the new park. To the right of the picture is a footbridge over Peasholm Beck which supplied the lake. The flowerbeds in the foreground were later altered to accommodate a wishing well. Photo: Max Payne Collection
