The Dutch Festival and other carnivals. Marie Susanna Florence said: "We used to have a fabulous carnival every June. Visiting bands came, it was a huge array of creativity, music and colour. Happy times."

The Penthouse, on St Nicholas Street, played host to over 600 bands, including some of the biggest names in British music. Stephen Aziz said: "Many a good night in the Penthouse, seen the Sex Pistols and The Police." Taboo, Laughtons and Scene One and Two were also fondly remembered.

Dicky Harper's Lane, more formally known as Seamer Moor Lane. The road is a popular cut-through from Racecourse Road to get towards Seamer and the A64. Another historically named road that people recall is Penny Black Lane, now Trafalgar Street West.

Monkey Island, at Scalby Mills. It was cleared to make way for the area that now houses the Sea Life Centre. Paul Haworth remembers: "Monkey Island, stepping stones across the beck, and walking to the very end of the sewer pipe at Scalby Mills."
