Pricing confirmed for updated Honda Civic Type R, including new 'subtle' model

Honda has announced pricing for its refreshed Civic Type R along with details of mechanical upgrades and a new more subtle variant.

Due to reach dealerships in the coming weeks, the expanded Civic Type R range will start at £32,820, with the better-equipped GT model and the new Sport Line version both costing from £34,820.

All models have been given minor exterior and interior cosmetic changes as well as more substantial engineering upgrades.

For 2021 all versions of the Type R gain a revised air intake system, improved cooling, two-piece floating disc brakes for increased performance, and revised suspension geometry and bushings for an improved ride.

Inside, key touch points have been upgraded with improved materials and all cars feature a new Alcantara steering wheel, a counterweighted teardrop gear knob and physical controls for the infotainment and climate control systems.

The extra £2,000 for the GT model brings blind spot information including cross traffic monitoring, dual zone climate control, auto dimming rear view mirror, internet-connectivity for the infotainment system, sat nav, wireless phone charging, an uprated stereo and LED front fog lights.

For the same money buyers can opt for a toned-down version of the infamously in-your-face Civic Type R. The Sport Line retains the 316bhp turbocharged 2.0-litre engine shared with all Type R models, which means it’s still good for 0-62mph in 5.8 seconds. However, the exterior has been muted with a low-level rear spoiler, smaller wheels (19 rather than 20-inch) with a larger profile tyre, and no pin-strip around the lower flanks of the car. The interior has also been toned down, with an all-black finish rather than the standard red upholstery.

Honda also confirmed a price for the Limited Edition Civic Type R as well as the disappointing news that all 20 examples destined for the UK have already been sold. For £39,995 the more extreme model comes with 20-inch BBS forged alloy wheels, unique “Sunlight Yellow” paint, and a 47kg weight saving over the standard car.
