Make your own cards and wrapping paper at free activities at Scarborough's Rotunda Museum

Over two consecutive Saturdays in December, families of up to six people can book a private craft session in their own personal ‘bubble’ at Scarborough Art Gallery.

Print Christmas! on Saturday December 12 will allow parents, carers and children to design and make their own unique hand-printed wrapping paper or card using simple printing techniques.

A Victorian Christmas on Saturday December 19 will take parents, carers and children back in time to discover the Trust’s collection of beautiful Victorian decoupage Christmas cards and have a go at making their own.

Also on offer over the Christmas period will be a TriceraTOTS special – an online festive family storytime. Launching on Friday December 18 at 11am online.

The Herd Theatre, whose show Slime was a hit at Scarborough’s Stephen Joseph Theatre last year, will be reading the wonderfully naughty The Dinosaur that Pooped Christmas by Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter, from Scarborough’s Rotunda Museum.

The pre-recorded reading, suitable for all the family but especially under-7s, will be available from the Museums Trust’s YouTube Channel and Facebook page until December 31.

Scarborough Museums Trust’s Learning Manager, Christine Rostron, says: “We hope that some magical memories will be made this Christmas at Scarborough Art Gallery!

“And we know that all our young dinosaur lovers have been missing the regular TriceraTOTs sessions, so we thought we’d bring them some dinosaur storytime fun from the Rotunda this Christmas.”

Both craft activities are suitable for all ages, and will take place between 10am and 1pm, and 2pm and 4pm. Booking is essential: from Saturday December 5 please call 01723 374753 or email [email protected] to book a 45-minute slot for a group of up to six people. We politely request that bookings are not to be made by those who live in Tier 3 (Very High alert) areas.

All Scarborough Museums Trust venues have been awarded Good To Go status, designed by Visit England and recognised by the National Tourist Organisations of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. This Industry Standard mark confirms that we have followed government and industry Covid-19 guidelines, have a risk assessment in place and a process to maintain cleanliness and aid social distancing.

The events will be held upstairs at the Art Gallery. Scarborough Museums Trust regrets that there is currently no disabled access to the upper floors.

The activities are free, but a £3 Annual Pass is required for over-18s, allowing entry to both Scarborough Art Gallery and the Rotunda Museum for a year. Entry to both venues is free for under-18s.
