Scarborough's Kieran, 6, walks a mile and a half to raise money for Children's Hospital Charity

This little Scarborough boy was beaming as he took part in his sponsored walk for the hospital team who have cared for him.

Kieran Dube walked a mile and a half from Scarborough Spa to The Sands in aid of The Children’s Hospital Charity, which supports the Medical Daycare department at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

As reported by The Scarborough News, Kieran has Osteogenesis Imperfecta - a bone condition which makes his bones incredibly fragile and easy to break.

He was diagnosed when he was a baby. His is Type Five – one of the rarest forms.

The six-year-old visits Sheffield Children’s Hospital every three months for infusions to help protect his bones.

Their care has helped mean he can attend St George’s Primary School in Eastfield, along with his brothers Ryan and Christian.

For the last few years the family has done sponsored events for the Brittle Bone Society in May but this was cancelled this year because of coronavirus.

As soon as lockdown restrictions were lifted, Kieran’s mum Rachel said he wanted to do something to thank the amazing team who have been looking after him in Sheffield and came up with the idea of a sponsored walk.

“It went really well,” she said. “Kieran loved doing the walk.”

He has so far collected £170 for the charity.
