The takeaway delivery business today announced it will be expanding into 100 new towns and cities across the UK in 2021, with Scarborough on the list.

Scarborough residents will be able to order a cheeky takeaway from their favourite eateries via the app later this year.

Restaurants across the country closed their doors to diners due to the pandemic and demand has surged for Deliveroo. The company hopes to reach four million new customers with its latest expansion.

The food delivery service has plans to launch in Scarborough in 2021.

It revealed it will launch in new areas across the UK, including Yeovil, Bangor (Northern Ireland), East Kilbride, King’s Lynn, Scarborough, Llanelli and Exmouth, but a full list of locations has yet to be revealed.

In light of the pandemic, thousands of restaurants began to offer delivery for the first time. Deliveroo also grew its grocery partnerships with Aldi, Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Waitrose in 2020, allowing vulnerable households facing lockdown and shielding to access essential groceries.

Carlo Mocci, Chief Business Officer UKI, Deliveroo said: “We are pleased to announce that we expect to launch in around 100 new towns and cities across the UK and expand our reach in existing areas throughout 2021 with the aim of reaching almost two thirds of the population.

"With further lockdown measures now in place across the UK, we want to do everything possible to help households get the food they need and want and play our role to make sure families across the country have a wide selection of amazing food, drink and household products in as little as 30 minutes.”
