He’s our master chef – Scarborough's Chris Hobson wins first Rising Star trophy in annual Deliciously Yorkshire Taste Awards
That’s tasty! Chef Chris Hobson has won the inaugural Deliciously Yorkshire Taste Awards Rising Star trophy and was runner-up in the Best Use of Local Produce category.
He is head chef at The View restaurant at the Delmont hotel in Blenheim Terrace on Scarborough’s north side. It was also nominated for Best New Business.

“I am very proud,” said Chris. “For me, this is the pinnacle of 25 years of hard graft,” he said.
“The past two years have been massive for me. I have found myself as a chef.”
Chris started his culinary career as a pot washer. He worked in the kitchen of the Green Lizard in Scarborough, where the head chef there took him under his wing.
He had stints at the Highlander hotel, what was Marmalades in Scarborough before moving to Seagrown in the harbour.
Earlier this year, Seagrown closed its cafe and owners of the Delmont, Matt and Tyfanwy Scott, invited Chris to be head chef at The View. His passion for local produce and sustainability chimed with what they wanted to achieve at their refurbished restaurant.
“I am passionate about local produce and suppliers,” said Chris. “I want to put The View on the map, a place where people can enjoy good, honest food, know where it comes from and at a reasonable price,” said Chris,
“That is my mission. I am going to continue to work hard for the rest of my career. I want to give back,” he said.
Chris’ Yorkshire suppliers include All Seasons for fruit and vegetables and Solange Bakery, both based in Scarborough Market, Sykes House Farm, Wetherby, Dennis Crooks Fish Merchant, Whitby and Malton-based Yorkshire pasta.
Alongside setting up The View, Chris has also been giving an increasing number of demonstrations at food events across the county, including, Malton Leeds and York. He plans to do more events in the future.
The Deliciously Yorkshire Taste Awards were held at the Pavilions of Harrogate earlier this month.
Chris was accompanied to the event by his wife Toni and the couple live in South Cliff. “Toni has been there throughout my career and it was great to share this with her. She is my biggest supporter and my biggest critic. She is also a massive foodie and is always giving me ideas,” he said.
Chris beat Jonny Mottram of Park House Barns, Ruth Parker, Rosedale Goats Cheese, and Mikael Paylor, New Inn, Appletreewick, to the Rising Star title. His win is spurring hm on.
“Being surrounded by people who are also passionate about what they do gave me more fire in my belly,” he said.
"I love being part of the Yorkshire network. We have got great produce here, some of the best in the world.”
Chris is one of the chefs taking part in Living North’s Christmas Fair at York Racecourse on Saturday November 22.
