Forget boring socks, the Tower Day Tripper Portable Briefcase BBQ (£50) looks like it’s straight out of a spy film but flips open to reveal a grill perfect for a spontaneous cookout in the garden, at the beach, or on a camping trip.

Its clever, compact design and aluminium carry handle make it ideal for taking on the go or setting up in the garden. Despite its size, its robust high-grade steel body is built to last, and dual ventilation holes give the user complete control over the heat for perfectly grilled burgers and sausages every time.

But if Dad is more of a DIY hero, take inspiration from the 'DIY Dad' movement online. The trend is epitomised by people like Ipswich's Dean Commodore, a Dad-of-two who has gained nearly half a million followers by "stepping in" to teach a new generation how to tackle basic household jobs.1

For those heroes, here are some other top gift ideas from Wickes perfect for their next project:

For the Dad Who Loves a Gadget:

If he loves precision, these smart tools are the perfect Father's Day gift. He can hang picture frames with satisfying accuracy using the Stanley STHT77498-1 Cubix Red Cross Line Laser Level (£57), and the Einhell TE-MD 80 Live Wire, Pipe & Stud Detector (42) is the ideal present to give him the peace of mind to drill into walls safely, avoiding any hidden hazards.

For the Dad Who's Always Fixing Something:

Give a gift that will be used time and time again. The Bosch 1600A02BY2 26 Piece Mobility Mixed Hand Tool Set (£44) is a fantastic present that covers all the basics for everyday tasks. For more power, the 18V 1 x 1.5Ah Li-ion Cordless Combi Drill (£49) is the ultimate Father's Day gift for the Dad who’s always taking on home improvement projects, whether it’s assembling furniture or mounting fixtures.

For the Dad with a Big Project:

For the Dad planning a bigger build, give him a tool he'll be truly excited about. The Wickes 210mm Corded Compound Mitre Saw - 1800W (£65) is a brilliant gift for making clean, precise cuts when building garden furniture or decking. Help him achieve a professional finish with the 3mm Corded Planer - 900W (£45), or make his next panelling job a breeze with the speedy Einhell Power X-Change 18V Cordless Nailer - Bare (£88).
