Try Roald Dahl's Matilda-inspired menu - including Bruce Bogtrotter’s Chocolate Cake Sharer - at Scarborough pubs

Marston’s is celebrating the joy of reading with a limited-edition Matilda-inspired menu and programme of exciting events this February half-term and Easter which pub-goers in Scarborough can enjoy.

The pub chain has partnered with The Roald Dahl Story Company and Quentin Blake to make mealtimes marvellous, bringing one of the most-loved children's book characters to life in a new way, through a limited-edition Matilda menu.

The partnership will launch just in time for the February half-term – and you can pop into the Tunny Catch on Burniston Road, Scarborough and Poacher’s Barn in Osgodby to see what tickles your fancy.

Matilda’s Mischievous Munch Box will add a dash of mischief to meals out, with a choice of sandwiches, crisps, a Robinsons Fruit Shoot and an ice cream sundae to finish.

Each Munch Box will come with a Matilda-themed game pack to keep little geniuses busy, plus a voucher allowing them to return and dine again for just £1.

For bigger appetites, Miss Trunchbull’s Mighty Meatballs features pork and beef meatballs with penne pasta and a "cunningly hidden” veg and tomato sauce, topped with cheese.

For dessert, try Miss Honey’s Honeycomb Ice Cream - vanilla ice cream topped with toffee sauce, honeycomb pieces and sugar curl wafers for dunking.

Making sure adults don’t miss out, Marston’s has recreated the iconic Bruce Bogtrotter’s Chocolate Cake Sharer, which is available as a dessert from the adults menu.

To celebrate, Marston’s is giving pub-goers the chance to win tickets to a special 30th anniversary screening of Matilda at the Royal Albert Hall.

All they need to do is post a picture of them tucking into the cake on social media between February 17 and April 19, tagging their local pub and using the hashtag #MarstonsBruceBogtrotterCake**.

Marston’s will be offering Miss Trunchbull’s Mighty Meatballs as part of their Kid’s Eat for £1 promotion in the 353 participating pubs during February half-term and the Easter holidays.

As well as introducing the new menu, venues will also be hosting a series of special themed events, taking place from February to April.

Matilda’s Marvellous Party will see locations host crafts, party games and more on February 20 and 21, and April 10 and 11.

On Friday March 6, venues will be holding Matilda’s Mischievous After School Party, where kids will be able to eat for just £1.

Over the Easter weekend, Matilda’s Marvellous Easter Hunt will task keen spellers with a hunt to find letters that will spell a Matilda-themed word.

Claire Robertson, Director of Operations for the South from Marston’s, said: “Families all over the UK are making memories at their locals but we want to add a sprinkle of magic and mischief to their visits over the upcoming school holidays and beyond.

“We’re proud to be sharing our love of such a special story with our guests and to encourage them to experience Matilda with a side of mischief.”

The limited-edition Matilda-inspired menu will be available in participating Marston’s pubs until April 19.
