Step inside ‘truly unique’ 120-year-old former Scarborough chapel and vicarage transformed into home – and on the market

A former Scarborough chapel and vicarage designed by leading architect are now on the market.

The Manor Road properties were built in 1901, having been designed by Frank Tugwell, who also designed York’s Theatre Royal and The Savoy Theatre in London.

In a character appraisal of the area, Scarborough Council calls them Manor Road Mortuary Chapel and Manor Road Lodge.

Estate agent Harris Shields Collection, in its listing on property website Rightmove, describes it as a “truly unique property” on the market for the first time in 30 years and “arguably one of the most unusual and interesting properties to grace the market in Scarborough for quite a while”.

The vicarage is now a family home spread over three floors with four bedrooms, three reception rooms and private enclosed gardens with patio areas and peaceful views over Manor Road Cemetery.

Harris Shields says: “The chapel adjoins the vicarage and is currently spread over four floors and could suit many uses subject to planning permission such as offices, light industry, house or apartments.”
