The potential danger was reported on a section of the Cleveland Way between Whitby and Saltwick Bay on Saturday.
Members of Whitby Coastguard were assessing the area.
Staithes Coastguard said cliff tops and some paths are at risk of landslips and collapse, and urged anyone who saw such incidents to report them to the coastguard via 999.
