This year, the charity's annual Sunrise Walk is in a different format, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The popular event, which last year attracted around 400 people, is usually held on a set date during September and features a 6.5-mile walk around the North and South bays in Scarborough.

However, due to the coronavirus pandemic and ongoing safety guidelines, it is not possible to hold a group event this year.

Instead, Saint Catherine’s is inviting supporters to do their own Sunrise Walk, with family or friends, at a location of their choice, on any day during the month of September.

The charity offers its services across a large area along the Yorkshire Coast and inland into Ryedale and Driffield.

Brendan is best known for the Channel 4 reality travel series Coach Trip, and has appeared in panto and on other TV series. He was formerly the entertainments manager at Scarborough Spa, and lived here for many years until moving to Spain.

As Brendan says on the video, which you can see with this story: "You can walk, you can run, you can even swim or cycle, whatever you want to do, as long as you celebrate this wonderful sunrise and remember those lovely, dear, dear friends and loved ones who have gone before us."

He also mentions the offer that the Harbour Bar in Scarborough is running: a free ice cream for all who do their own Sunrise Walk.

Susan Stephenson, communications and marketing manager, said: “We might be walking apart this year, but we are still united together with the aim of supporting patient care at Saint Catherine’s."
