The Summer of 69 rocker hopped on a train to Whitby as he swapped stadiums for the rather more intimate surrounds of Westerdale.

Saturday night’s gig was part of a lavish 50th birthday celebration thrown by Carphone Warehouse founder David Ross.

Sources claim all 149 villagers were invited to the party, which concluded with a dazzling firework display.

“If you want to see live music around here you usually have to go to a pub in Whitby - so landing Bryan Adams is just incredible,” said one local.

“There was clearly no expense spared at the party.

“We could see the fireworks over the village and it put any organised display to shame.”

Sources initially claimed the superstar was privately flown in for the gig.

But on Twitter the musician told the paper he arrived by train, making the journey from Kings Cross.

A privately chartered train also arrived at Castleton Moor on Saturday, although the singer took to Twitter to deny that he was on-board.

But he was full of praise for the area, telling the Gazette it was a “really nice place”.

Mr Ross is understood to have one of his several properties in the village, and his foundation covered most of the bill to revamp the village hall.

The billionaire’s property Dale View Farm is on the outskirts of the civil parish.

A former farmhouse, it’s reportedly got four stories and a courtyard.

In 2007, it received permission to convert outbuildings into accommodation for guests.

“From the outside it’s quite unassuming, but inside it’s just lovely, with about 10 bedrooms,” said one source.

“It’s a beautiful classic building with a modern twist that’s surrounded by farmland.”

The Grimsby-born billionaire’s vast fortune has previously landed him on Forbes’ rich list, and local photographer Colin Grice estimated that the mobile magnate must have “blown a million or two” on the celebration - along with the “spectacular” ten minute long firework display that followed.

“(The) cows and calves found it very alarming - the noise was terrific,” he joked in a blog post.

He added that the site was being prepared from at least Friday - the businessman’s actual birthday - ahead of Adams’ arrival to headline the party.
