Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team were called by North Yorkshire Police at 3.31pm yesterday to help with the recovery.

Fourteen of the team's members attended the scene and carried the man's body using a bell stretcher to a waiting private ambulance at Hayburn Wyke.

The team was deployed for three hours 45 minutes.

Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team said: "Our thoughts and condolences go out to the gentleman's family and friends and all those involved in the incident.

"This is our second callout during the lockdown and the first where we got boots on the ground, team members were deployed in appropriate medical personal protection equipment for the pandemic in addition to our standard clothing and equipment which proved both uncomfortable to work in and significantly slowed down the whole incident.

"There was also additional work to decontaminate vehicles, equipment and clothing on the return to base and restock the team vehicles to ensure we remain operational through this difficult period."

North Yorkshire Police has been approached for further comment on this incident.
