Bridlington CC slide to five-wicket loss at Fairburn
Bridlington Cricket Club 1sts’ push for YPLN Premier Division 2 promotion was dented by a five-wicket defeat on the road at Fairburn on Saturday.
The hosts moved out of the relegation zone thanks to the win, while Brid are now 10 points behind second-placed Sessay, with the top two going up.

Fairburn captain Kieran Samuels won the toss and chose to field first, and his counterpart Casey Rudd soon perished for a fourth-ball duck to leave the visitors teetering on 1-0. Sam Wragg (24) and Will Norman (23) steadied the ship with a second-wicket stand of 32 from four overs, then Norman and Calum Hatton (33) put on 40 in 6.3 overs.
A half-century partnership between Hatton and Freddie Gunning (18) carried on the steady accumulation for Brid, reaching 124-3 from 18.3 overs, but then Kadeem Harvey (6-36) ripped the heart out of the visitors’ middle order as they lost four wickets for 14 runs.
A defiant eight-wicket stand of 67 between Tim Atkins (34) and Harvey Dixon (35no) steered them to 205-7, but the last three wickets fell to Henry’s superb bowling for four runs with Brid 209 all out in just 34.5 overs.
Dixon’s 2-46 was the bowling highlight for Brid as Fairburn secured the win with 211-5 in 38.2 overs.
Sixth-placed Brid head to third-placed Sheriff Hutton Bridge 2nds this Saturday.
