A Bridlington lifeboat crew were practising search and rescue exercises in their all-weather boat yesterday afternoon when they received a report of a foil surfer understood to be in difficulty close to Fraisthorpe Beach.

When they reached him, the surfer had been in the water for 30 minutes and was described as "cold and exhausted".

They took him aboard the lifeboat and then to a coastguard team who waded out to meet the man.
