Jordon Holbrook, 22, punched and kicked the woman in Windsor Crescent, Bridlington, after getting out of a car and demanding £40.

Holbrook was jailed for three years and two months in 2013 for burgling a centenarian’s home in Bridlington, and then going on a £1,000 heroin binge. She stole a watch and jewellery from the 100-year-old by calling at her house and asking for the toilet.

Holbrook, of Quay Road, Bridlington, appeared at Hull Crown Court (Wednesday March 16) after pleading guilty to a charge of attempted robbery and causing actual bodily harm.

Crown barrister Stephen Welch said Holbrook was in a car which pulled up alongside the woman and its driver asked: “Where is my £40?” on January 12 2016.

He said Holbrook got out got out the car asking the victim where the money was, then punching her head and left shoulder.

They both fell to the ground in a struggle, but Holbrook continued the assault punching the woman’s head and chest.

Holbrook was asked to let go as a man from the car tried to intervene.

Mr Welch said as Holbrook got up she kicked the woman and stamped on her head. She snatched her bag off her and shouted: “Is there any money in here? When she found there wasn’t, she threw it down and spat at her.

Mr Welch said Holbrook had convictions for dishonesty and violence, but the most serious was the deliberate targeting of elderly females in 2013. In the same spate of burglaries Holbrook entered the homes of a 55-year-old woman who was terminally ill stealing £5,000 worth of gold rings she wanted to leave as “heirlooms”. The woman died of breast cancer seven weeks after the burglary.

Defence barrister Claire Homes said: “She has a great deal of personal mitigation and I was instructed to ask for guidance on the maximum sentence the judge would give here.”

Judge Paul Watson, QC, said he could consider a suspended sentence of imprisonment if it fell below two years. He said he had yet to make up his mind.

He said Holbrook was a woman with a fair share of difficulties and the sentence after a trial could be no more than 30 months.

He said because of her guilty plea he was obliged by sentencing guidelines to give her a 25 per cent discount which could make it a non custodial sentence.

He ordered Holbrook to stand as he told her he would sentence her after a report by the Humberside Probation Service at Sheffield Crown Court in April.

She walked free from court on bail.
