Coastguard warning after two people cut off by the tide on the Yorkshire Coast

Coastguards are urging people to check tide times after rescuing two people left stranded by the tide on the Yorkshire Coast yesterday.

Whitby Coastguard team was called to help the pair under East Cliff, near Whitby's East Pier, just after 4pm.

The crew helped both people along the shoreline to the East Pier before giving them safety advice about tide times.

"Please ensure that you are well prepared for whatever activity you intend to undertake at the coast," the team posted on social media.

"In particular, remember to check tide times before you set out and ensure that you allow enough time to make it back to safety.
