Whitby Coastguard team was called to help the pair under East Cliff, near Whitby's East Pier, just after 4pm.

The crew helped both people along the shoreline to the East Pier before giving them safety advice about tide times.

"Please ensure that you are well prepared for whatever activity you intend to undertake at the coast," the team posted on social media.

Two people were rescued yesterday afternoon by Whitby Coastguard.

"In particular, remember to check tide times before you set out and ensure that you allow enough time to make it back to safety.

"If you see anyone in trouble at sea or on the coast, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard."
