Coastguard warns high winds and rough tides could make coast 'extremely dangerous'

Scarborough & Burniston and Whitby Coastguards have issued a warning to the public over rough seas and high tides in the coming days.

The warning states: "Rough seas and high tides are expected to coincide over the next few days.

"This will make promenades, harbours and lower coastal paths extremely dangerous due to the powerful northerly wave action and flying debris."

Some road/footpath closures may be required several hours either side of high water, if this is the case do not drive or walk past the closure signs for your own safety.

If you see someone if difficultly on the coast or putting themselves in a dangerous position due to the conditions, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
